G L A S S

in the early hour
the reverie of cool surface smoothed
under fingers tracing curves
the crest captured forever

was I an object
something to hold until a
river

with bites of smashed glass                           but I am learning how to swim
my belly kicked with pins                             drinking the milk of moon
against a fateful shard                                   as opal wolves are my sisters
of betrayal                                                    you did not kill me

your hand grips the splinter
trapped in
distortion

my pain rises into desert thirst
I am so old and so forgotten
just granules of sand rubbed into skin
your skin that now touches another

cuts
me
with                                                               is a mirror back to you
every
stroke
